History and Evolution of Smart City:

Professor Michael Batty a well known and industry known urban planner in 1997 has given a astounding vision. In London , an academic publication has introduced the coin term ” The Computeable City“. According to Prof.Batty by 2050, there will be “Smart Buildings” will be interconnected with the every thing around us in a vast kind of information infrastructure.

Professor Batty was indeed the first one to reliaze the new concept of “Smart City“. But as with all inovaters , he didnot anticipated that such a dream become reality and happened so fast. As there is a rapid growth in urbanization , there is enormous increase in requirements regarding provision of  transport, emergency services and utilities . These facilities are already stretched to their maximum potential.

SMART CITY

To Cope with the dire need of these challenges there are more than 2500 cities around the globe , already progressing for the “smart” cities. There is enormous data generated from municipal facilities , healthcare , public utilities , public safety , governance , traffic camreas, sensors attached to streetlights , busses , trash bins and burried one as well. All these systems contribute to the evolution of smart cities and generation of concepts of Internt of things (IOT), BIG DATA and Cloud computing .

” Key Component of smart city is the speed and communication reliability

In a smart city the data generation is vast. Some experts thing that by the end of 2016 there will be 4 terabytes of data generated every day from per square kilometer of urban land.

There is also an urgent need for a technology to coordinate  diverse information around smart city. Like in Norway there are more than 40,000 bus stops for a Kolumbus , a local transport company . They are making scheduling announcement via twitter. so the requirement is not only to coordinate the vast amount of data but also to make it accessible for the array of applications. one of the solution is employment of agile networks . Agile network is a system that uses a new technology to automatically control and configure the data and disseminate across number of varying devices.

Smart City Services Around World:

To face the day to day city problems various kind of services are being employed around the world. The major focus is on the environment, energy and transportation. It helps in reducing cost, making effective use of resources and enabling in reduction of pollution.
